The India Ministry is planning to extend visa on arrival service to apply to travelers from more countries. Currently the service is only offered to arrivals from 11 select countries. This service allows foreign tourists to enter India without applying for a visa in advance and instead obtain the visa at major airports in India. It is hoped that extension of the program will boost tourist arrivals in India.
The 11 countries that are currently offered the service include Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Finland and Indonesia. There are no big name countries like the US or England which send far more tourists to India each year. The Ministry of Tourism is considering adding the US and several European nations for visa on arrival service, but hasn't disclosed any time-frame yet.
